Effective July 1, 2020 Project MEND will operate the following programs with updated changes:
Project MEND will continue to operate M-F 8-5, closed from 12-1p.
Project MEND continues to review all current public health orders set forth by San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Governor Gregg Abbott. We have created an operational plan that allows us to continue to serve our clients while keeping both them and our staff safe.
Medical Equipment Reuse Program
Current and new clients needing medical equipment will be processed virtually through case management into our system. Project MEND administrative offices will remain closed to public. All required paperwork can be completed virtually. Contact for case management is (210) 223-6363, option 2.
Beginning July 1, 2020, Project MEND will re-implement the requirement for a prescription for the following mechanical items:
- Hospital beds
- Power chairs/scooters
- Hoyer lifts
- Manual/transport wheelchairs
Project MEND will continue to allow the following non-mechanical items to be assigned to a client without the requirement of a prescription:
- Bedside commodes
- Tub transfer benches
- Shower chairs
- Adult incontinence items
Project MEND will continue waiving application and trip/delivery fees for medical equipment distributed through September 30, 2020. Effective October 1, 2020, these fees will be required again.
Client Medical Equipment Delivery or Pick Up
Pick Up: Current and new clients have the option of picking up at our warehouse at 1201 Austin. St SATX 78208. Warehouse gates will remain closed to public, but if client will call at (210) 223-6363 option 3 we will assist and meet at the vehicle. Clients can also honk for assistance. Social distancing will be enforced.
Delivery: Average wait time for delivery of equipment is up to 5 working days.
Non-mechanical items will be delivered curbside. Mechanical items, such as Hoyer lifts, hospital beds and power chairs/scooters, can be delivered into the home per request of the client on a case-by-case basis. When setting up delivery, staff will process client with COVID-19 questionnaire in order to mitigate risk of infection. Clients and staff are required to wear face masks while home deliveries are completed.
Effective July 1, 2020, repairs are available by appointment only. Repairs are only offered for Project MEND client equipment and for those in our veteran program. Project MEND will no longer complete repairs on equipment NOT issued by Project MEND. Contact (210) 223-6363, option 3. Repairs are still available curbside and virtually as needed for our clients. Repair fees and trip fees will not be waived.
All veterans, spouses of veterans and dependents will still be required to provide proof of veteran status, but all medical equipment, mechanical or non-mechanical, will be available without the requirement of a prescription. AT items will be addressed on an as needed basis, with a continued requirement of a prescription or letter of medical necessity only for AT devices requiring computer hardware or software. Medical Equipment Donations are still being accepted and we are thankful for those that continue to support our program.
Equipment Donation options:
- Drop off at our warehouse location at 1201 Austin Street 78208, M-F, 8am-Noon. No appointments are required to drop off equipment at the warehouse.
- Equipment Donation pick-ups are available and average wait time to be placed on schedule is about 1 to 1 1/2 weeks. Once on schedule, we ask that donations be left curbside for pick up. If curbside is not an option for larger items such as Hoyer lifts, power chairs and hospital beds, staff will process person donating equipment with COVID-19 questionnaire in order to mitigate risk of infection on a case by case basis.
