    Frequently Asked Questions

    1

Do I need to make an appointment to volunteer?
Yes! Please submit an application so we can get your onboarding process started. After a short interview, we can move forward with solidifying a volunteer schedule!

    2

What if I am only available on the weekends?
We are only open Monday- Friday, but that doesn’t mean our weekends aren’t active, too! While weekend events are occasional, they offer unique chances to jump in when the opportunity arises. You can join us at outreach events, take part in special volunteer projects, or assist at community events we host.

    3

Why do I need to do a volunteer interview?
We require a short interview for individuals who are interested in volunteering so we can get to know who you are, share more about our mission, and match you with the best volunteer opportunities.

    4

I only need to earn a small number of hours for school or work. Do I still need to go through the interview process? Yes! That way we can better understand your needs and set up times that allow you to fulfill your requirements. It is strongly recommended that you reach out well ahead of your deadline, as we cannot guarantee same day or same week volunteering.

    5

    What are the age requirements?
Volunteers 16+ are required to be accompanied by an adult, while all volunteers ages 18+ are eligible to volunteer independently. For those under the age of 16, we recommend inquiring about at home opportunities such as hosting an equipment drive or fundraiser!

    “Make-A-Chair”

    A corporate team building opportunity.

Looking for a great team-building activity and a great way to give back?

    • Make-A-Chair is Project MEND’s high energy team building experience
and fundraiser that brings your group together to assemble brand new
wheelchairs for individuals in need- all while having fun, competing,
and making a life-changing impact. We provide everything you need
and even bring the event straight to your workplace, turning teamwork
into mobility for someone in your community.
    • Businesses purchase wheelchairs at $500 each, for teams of 2-3
participants to assemble for a Project MEND client in need.
    • We provide all tools, supplies, instructions, and Warehouse Technicians
to guide and support your team.
    • Each chair undergoes a full quality and demonstration check before it’s
ready to serve a community member.
    • The experience typically lasts about 2 hours, with flexibility based on
      your team’s schedule.
    • We can host 3-5 teams at our warehouse or bring Make-A-Chair to you and
host up to 40 teams, making it an easy, convenient, and
      unforgettable onsite experience.
