Arianna is a 5 year old living with Cerebral Palsy.
Arianna is a 5 year old living with Cerebral Palsy, a congenital condition that affects a person’s movement, muscle tone and posture.
As her primary caregiver, Arianna’s mother was determined to get Arianna whatever help she needed, but quickly found that language barriers only added limitations to their ability to access help.
Frustrated and feeling at a loss, Arianna’s mother felt her only option was to continue as best she could – often resulting in her carrying Arianna or utilizing a small “umbrella stroller,” which does not provide the support a child living with Cerebral Palsy needs.
Through our partnership with University Health System, Arianna and her mother were referred to Project MEND for help acquiring a tomato stroller, a lightweight stroller that provides adequate support for children with special seating and posturing needs. With support from the Harvey Najiim Family Foundation, we successfully put Arianna through our Project MEND KIDS Assistive Technology Financial Aid Program and purchased a tomato stroller with appropriate trunk support and a 5-point harness strap.
This piece of equipment is life changing: while the stroller is for Arianna – providing her the proper support she needs while seated – two lives were actually impacted. Arianna’s mother is very happy and excited about their new assistive technology item and grateful for the opportunity that was presented to them.
